RObert Butchko
Owner, Black Walnut Woodcraft
I began working with wood as a child. I wanted to be a carpenter, but life took me on a different path, and I ended up getting a PhD in plant pathology from Texas A&M. After years of working in a laboratory, I decided to return to my love of woodcraft and design. I began by working for other companies. I made everything from mid-century inspired furniture to ceiling beams. And now I am using that knowledge and experience to create custom pieces for my own clients through Black Walnut Woodcraft. I believe in the late 19th and early 20th century design aesthetic “form follows function,” but I also believe that the objects in our homes and offices should be beautiful and enriching. I follow these principles when creating pieces for my clients and my own home.
